Patrick and Claire welcome you to The Helyar Arms, a Grade II listed 17th Century Inn, that still retains a wealth of character and charm, set in the picturesque village of East Coker with its mellow stone and thatch cottages, Alms Houses, Historic Coker Court and St Michael’s church. You can visit the resting place of T.S. Eliot and discover the birthplace of the explorer William Dampier.
So if you’re after historic culture, countryside walks or a relaxing escape, our real log fires and warm, friendly atmosphere will make you welcome whilst you enjoy our great food, real ales, fine wines and Somerset ciders and we are sure you will feel comfortable and at home in our charming En-suite bedrooms.
A complete change in atmosphere and service. New owners are really friendly, great atmosphere, well kept beers, nice choice of ciders, family friendly - drink only but kitchen will reopen in the new year. Prices have come down and comparable to other local pubs.'

We are passionate about our food, using local produce from neighbouring farmers and suppliers. Our menus could be described as traditional British fare with a twist, embracing some influences from the middle and far eastern cuisines. We have tried to include dishes that will suit all palates and purses whether meat eaters, vegetarian or Pescetarian! (Special Dietary Requirements can be catered for with prior notice).
'The Helyar Arms is my local pub where I grew up. There's no hiding that it has recently been having some problems and the reviews on here are pretty average to say the least. HOWEVER - a new couple have taken over and hope to be part of the village for years to come. Chatting to them the other evening, they are warm, friendly and have great plans for the pub's future. It feels like a completely different place already and they said food will re-start in the new year. Looking forward to it.'
